Duty of Care

Last Update 4 years ago
Every church needs to address its responsibilities towards duty of care and identify the level of effort and resources it wants to expend based on the scope of operations.
The content in the system is based on the Baptist Insurance Services Risk Management Guide for Churches and the content areas selected by your church will be dependent on the risk appetite of the church leadership group, including the Senior Pastor. We would suggest that risk management should become a regular agenda item at your leadership team meetings.
The system does create an excellent audit track record of your effort to protect your people and those that attend your church premises, whether members of the local community or suppliers.
This information will be of use to your church leadership team, team leaders and your insurer. In the event of legal action, your records will provide valuable insights into the true chain of events and actions.
The DOC requirements in the system are consistent for all church sizes and the amount of information captured will vary depending on whether the church is:
- renting a property for worship
- conducting home church
- occupying a single building
- occupying multiple buildings
- the variety (or breadth) of church activities eg. food banks, opportunity shops, coffee shops
